THREE Manila policemen were arrested by operatives of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) for robbery-extortion in Manila last Monday night.

IMEG Director Brig. Gen. Warren De Leon identified the cops as Staff Sgt. Erwin Licuasen, 34; Corporal Chimber Importa, 33; and Patrolman Leopoldo Tuason, 39.

They were arrested at around 10:45 p.m. in an entrapment operation inside the Paco Police Community Precinct, Police Station 5 in Ermita, Manila where they are assigned.

They were nabbed based on the complaint of Frederick Alba, 34, of Sampaloc, Manila who reported that the driver of his tricycle, identified only as John-John, was apprehended by the police for counter-flowing and driving without license last Sunday.

The policemen impounded the tricycle but later demanded P2,000 from Alba in exchange for the release of the vehicle.

“The said personnel were arrested after receiving marked money amounting to P2,000 from the complainant in exchange for the release of an impounded tricycle that was earlier apprehended for a traffic violation,” said De Leon.

Aside from the marked money, also recovered from the cops were PNP-issued 9 mm pistols, six magazines with 92 bullets, the impounded tricycle, three mobile phones, and the blotter.

De Leon said the arrest of the three policemen was in line with the intensified campaign against rogue cops ordered by PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
