THREE members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group, one of them involved in the 2000 kidnapping of 21 tourists at a diving resort in Malaysia, surrendered to police in Sulu on Monday.
The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) named the three as Mujir Jallah Aharadji alias Appah, Jurrim Alungan Hapas, and Ebin Habiba Hapas.
The CIDG said the three surrendered to officials of the CIDG and the PNP Special Action Force in Camp Asturias, Jolo town.
The three surrendered “upon realizing that they were just deceived by the sweet lies and false ideologies of the armed group,” the CIDG said in a statement.
The CIDG said Jurrim was among the Abu Sayyaf men who figured in the kidnapping of 21 mostly Caucasian tourists from the posh Sipadan diving resort in Malaysia in April 2000.
The victims were brought to Sulu where they were released after payment of ransom.
“The three ASG members were involved in several encounters with government security forces,” the CIDG said.
