SIXTY more deaths were reported yesterday by the Department of Health, raising the number of fatalities due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to 5,925, while the number of new infections rose to 2,825 after two days of hovering just above the 2,000-mark.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said majority of the new cases, 1,031, came from the National Capital Region (NCR) while Cavite reported 243, Batangas 238, Bulacan 173, and Rizal 159.
Overall, the total number of infections rose to 329,637, still the highest in Southeast Asia.
Majority of the new deaths were recorded in NCR with 23. Other deaths were reported from CALABARZON (12), Western Visayas (8), and Central Luzon (6).
There were 437 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has reached a total of 273,723.
Globally, as of October 6, there were 35,347,404 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,039,406 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
Six more overseas Filipinos were infected with the deadly virus, bringing the number to 10,849 in 80 countries, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The number of overseas Filipinos who succumbed to the virus now stands at 800 after the DFA said one new death was recorded.
There were two new recoveries, bringing the number of recoveries to 6,905.
The Middle East and African regions still had the highest number of cases and deaths at 7,130 and 518, respectively.
The Asia Pacific region has recorded 1,708 cases but only nine deaths while Europe had 1,201 cases and 95 deaths.
Though there were only 810 cases registered among members of the Filipino community in the Americas, the region has a far higher number of deaths with 178 compared to Asia Pacific and Europe. — With Ashzel Hachero
