The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 10.7 percent among the 28,620 tested samples on February 12.

Active case also dropped to 76,609 from 81,394 last Sunday, with over 69,000 mild cases and more than 2,900 moderate cases.

The DOH also reported 7,456 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,508,239.

The health department said it expects COVID-19 cases being reported daily to drop further in the coming weeks.

Based on the projections made by FASSSTER, the DOH said the national daily new cases are expected to go below 2,100 by March 15.

“These projections assume that most cases have the Omicron variant and are based on several assumptions including mobility, vaccination coverage, and adherence to MPHS (minimum public health standards),” the DOH said in a social media post.

“Therefore, to keep the case count to a minimum, we implore all Filipinos to practice our mask-hugas-iwas-airflow-bakuna strategy to help us see the light at the end of this tunnel,” it added.

The DOH said if compliance to minimum public health standards decreases, average daily cases may rise to around 7,700 by the middle of March.

Ten more police personnel have contracted the COVID-19 virus, pushing to 48,739 the total cases in the PNP since 2020.

The new cases brought the active COVID-19 cases in the PNP to 258 as of yesterday, the PNP said.

The PNP also said 17 of its personnel have recovered from the deadly disease, bringing the total recoveries to 48,353 as of yesterday. The PNP death toll from the COVID-19 remained at 128.

During the Laging Handa press briefing, PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo said: “As of February 14, a total of 48,739 were already affected in our ranks and we have 258 active cases.”

The PNP said 219,486 of its personnel or 97.60 percent of its total strength have been fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 while 4,595 others or 2.04 percent have received the first dose of two-dose vaccines. It said 105,175 or 47.92 of fully-vaccinated personnel have received booster shots.

The PNP said 794 of its personnel or 0.36 of its strength have yet to vaccinated. It said 401 of the unvaccinated have valid reasons while 393 have none. — With Victor Reyes
