MORE than 2,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) yesterday while nearly 18,000 more have recovered from the deadly virus.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said there were 2,396 new cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 383,113.
Davao City had 148 new cases, followed by Quezon City (146), Laguna (122), Cavite (112), and Benguet (100).
Seventeen more patients died, raising the number of fatalities to 7,238. This brings the case fatality rate in the country to 1.89 percent, the DOH said.
With 17,727 more patients successfully battling the virus, the number of survivors rose to 348,760. The DOH said this means that 91 percent of patients have been able to recover.
The DOH had attributed the high number of recoveries to its “Oplan Recovery,” a program that monitors the status of confirmed COVID-19 cases with mild symptoms and are asymptomatic.
“Oplan Recovery” uses the time-based recovery system, wherein those who have completed the 14-day isolation period and are cleared by a physician are tagged as having recovered despite not undergoing repeat RT-PCR testing.
