TWENTY-TWO members of the New People’s Army, blamed for atrocities in the Calabarzon region, surrendered to the military and police on Wednesday in General Nakar town in Quezon.

The 22 rebels also yielded 10 firearms, assorted ammunition, improvised explosives and other war material, said Capt. Jayrald Ternio, spokesman of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division based in Rizal.

Tenior said the 22 gave themselves up after negotiations with the 2nd ID, under the command of Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos, and with the Calabarzon regional police office.

“Per military intelligence, the former rebels used to operate in the provinces of Quezon, Laguna and Rizal, some of whom were directly involved in terrorist extortion activities perpetrated against the people,” said Ternio.
