TWENTY-TWO Filipino crew members of the MT Sounion returned home last Saturday, 10 days after the Greek-owned oil tanker was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
In a social media post, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said the 22 seafarers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
“The 22 Filipino seafarers have arrived in batches on Saturday on board Flights EK332, TG624, and WY843,” said the OWWA.
There were 23 Filipino crew members of the MT Sounion.
“The other seafarer is also set for repatriation,” the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said in a separate social media post.
The DMW said each repatriated seafarer was given immediate financial assistance worth P75,000.
It said the Filipino seafarers also received the necessary medical assessment and psycho-social counseling from the government.
OWWA said they were also provided food and transportation assistance, as well as hotel accommodation.
Last August 21, the MT Sounion was subjected to multiple missile attacks by more than a dozen people on two small boats.
The latest attack took place west of Yemen and west of the Red Sea, which has been designated as a high-risk and war-like zone.
