AFTER Sunday’s record setting numbers, the Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported 2,099 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, raising the total number in the country to 46,333 with six more deaths.
Based on the latest bulletin of the DOH, there were 1,258 “fresh cases” and 842 “late cases.” Last Sunday, the DOH reported 2,434 new cases, the single highest-day spike since the pandemic begun.
With the six new deaths, the number of fatalities rose to 1,303 while 243 more patients have recovered, meaning there are now 12,185 patients who have survived the deadly virus.
Globally, as of July 5, the World Health Organization reported 11,125,245 confirmed cases, including 528,204 deaths.
While the situation at home continues to be bleak, Filipinos abroad seem to be waging a successful fight against the virus.
For the first time in three months, the Department of Foreign Affairs received no new reports of overseas Filipinos infected with the virus or fatalities yesterday.
“On this brand new week and after three months of daily monitoring of COVID cases among Filipinos abroad, no new confirmed cases and fatalities due to COVID-19 were reported among our people across the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa,” the DFA said.
The department and its embassies and consulates abroad will remain vigilant in monitoring the status of the Filipino community.
On Sunday, the DFA reported that 50 more overseas Filipinos were infected with the virus while 14 more have died. — With Ashzel Hachero
