2019 Bar exams off to a quiet start

THE Manila Police District (MPD) did not monitor any security glitches during yesterday’s start of the 2019 Bar examinations held at the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila.

The MPD deployed more than 600 personnel in and around the university premises to ensure the security of the 8,245 examinees.

It likewise set up command posts in various corners, while the city government provided additional personnel to ensure the successful and peaceful conduct of the Bar exams.

Traffic personnel closed P. Noval and Dapitan streets, AH Lacson Avenue and Espana Boulevard from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 5p.m. onwards. The road closure will be implemented in the remaining Sundays (November 10, 17 and 24) of November while the examinations is being held.

Parking on the said roads was also prohibited, the MPD said.

Prior to the start of the exams, SC Associate Justice and 2019 Bar exams committee chairperson Estela Perlas Bernabe, along with Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta and Associate Justices Marvic Leonen and Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, visited the UST and the Bar examinees for a final inspection. They were accompanied by Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez.

The Bar exams covers eight subjects namely Political Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Labor Law, Criminal Law, Remedial Law, Mercantile Law and Legal and Judicial Ethics.

The first Sunday of the Bar covers Political and International Law in the morning and Labor Law and Social Legislation in the afternoon.

The second Sunday will cover Civil Law and Taxation, while the third Sunday will be Mercantile Law and Criminal Law.

The last Sunday will cover Remedial Law and Legal and Judicial Ethics.
