TWO Koreans wanted for swindling and illegal gambling were apprehended in Makati and Pampanga, the Bureau of Immigration said yesterday.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said Kang Mingyu was arrested in his condominium unit in Makati by operatives of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) last Friday while Jung Youngmin was nabbed in Clark, Pampanga last Saturday.

Morente said Kang was the subject of a summary deportation order issued by the BI Board of Commissioners in 2020 for being an undesirable alien.

Morente said information provided by South Korean authorities showed that a warrant was issued against Kang in June 2020 by the Dongbu district court in Seoul, where charges of large-scale fraud were filed against him.

Kang was also the subject of a red notice issued by the Interpol in 2020 after it was learned that the fled South Korea to avoid prosecution.

The complaint against Kang alleged that from August 2016 and November 2019 he and his accomplices defrauded their victims of some 700 million won or nearly $600,000 by tricking them to invest their money in his import/export gold bar trading and real estate business.

Jung is the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Nambu District Court in September 2021 for setting up illegal gambling joints.

Morente said the BI was told by South Korean authorities that Jung earned some 28 billion, or about $23 million in his illegal gambling racket.
