OPERATIVES of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) have arrested two Vietnamese allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a fellow Vietnamese late last month, the PNP reported yesterday.
In a statement, PNP public information office chief Col. Redrico Maranan named the suspects as Mihn Viet Phan, 29, and Chi Trung Nguyen, 27.
Maranan said Phan was arrested at his condominium in Pasay City last November 17 while Nguyen was nabbed at a KTV bar in Paranaque City the following day.
Phan and Nguyen were said to be responsible for the kidnapping of a female Vietnamese last October 29.
“On the same day, later in the evening, the victim’s boyfriend received messages and video of the abducted being beaten by her captors and demanded P50 million ransom for her release,” said Maranan.
During negotiations with the victim’s family, Maranan said the suspects agreed to lower the ransom demand to P1 million, which was paid in two tranches to a dollar account.
The victim was abandoned by her captors at Blue Mountain along Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City last November 16.
AKG operatives conducted follow-up operations, leading to the arrest of Phan and Nguyen, who are now facing charges of kidnapping-for-ransom and serious illegal detention.
Maranan said operations are underway to arrest other suspects involved in the crime.
“I commend all the operatives in this successful operation,” said PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
Azurin said the PNP is determined to investigate, arrest and jail all criminals to ensure peace and order, which he said will lead to the country’s prosperity.
