EIGHT people died and 13 others were injured in a collision between two trucks in Cagayan de Oro City last Monday.
Five of the fatalities died on the spot while three others were declared dead on arrival at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center, the Cagayan de Oro City police station said.
Police said the incident occurred early morning last Monday along CM Recto Highway in Barangay Agusan involving a Fuso cargo truck and a Kia Bongo truck driven by Julito Telen and Alvin Escabarte, respectively.
The Fuso truck, loaded with live chicken, and the Kia Bongo truck were traveling in opposite directions when the incident happened.
The fatalities, including Escabarte, and the injured were all aboard the Bongo truck.
The passengers, including minors, were mostly relatives who came from Zamboanga del Sur to attend the burial of a relative.
Telen surrendered to the police after the incident and is detained at the Cagayan de Oro City’s Police Station 6, facing further investigation.
Police said he will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
