TWO suspected drug pushers, including one capable of selling three kilos of suspected shabu in a week, were killed in a buy-bust operation in San Pablo City, Laguna on Saturday afternoon.
Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna Police Provincial Office director, identified the fatalities as Allan Saniel, of Barangay Sta. Monica, San Pablo City; and Lloyd de Chavez, also from San Pablo City.
Police said Saniel, alias Bata, is the most trusted man of Edwin Amante, leader of the Amante drug group. Saniel can reportedly sell two to three kilos of shabu a week in the third district of the province and nearby areas of Quezon province.
Investigation showed that after an undercover cop bought P1,000 worth of shabu from Saniel, the two suspects, sensing they were transacting with a police officer, fired at the cops but missed. The cops retaliated, killing the two.
Recovered from the two were two caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .9 mm pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, and 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P250,000.
Meanwhile, PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said government cannot abandon the war on drugs as suggested by Vice President Leni Robredo, who said President Duterte’s campaign against drugs is a failure since it only targeted the poor.
Aquino, in an interview over dzBB, said stopping the war on drugs would not sustain the gains of the government in the fight against illegal drugs.
He said combined police and PDEA agents have already cleared at least 15,000 of the 42,045 barangays nationwide of drugs and stopping the campaign against drugs would mean drugs will return at the cleared barangays.
#RealnumbersPH, the official government data on the war on drugs, showed that from July 2016 to June 2019, anti-illegal drugs agents conducted 134,583 operations nationwide that led to the killing of 5,526 drug users and pushers and the arrest of 193,086 others.
