TWO persons were nabbed by police in Tanza, Cavite on Tuesday for unauthorized handling and storing two tons of used surgical hand gloves intended to be recycled.
A report from the Cavite regional police office identified the two as Ernest Latuan, 31; and Marlon Cenizal, 21, both of Wellington Subdivision in Barangay Tres Cruses, Tanza.
A concerned citizen reported to the Tanza Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office that hazardous surgical gloves were being stored in three apartment units being occupied by the suspects.
This was relayed by MENRO to the PNP, leading to the police operation at around 3:30 p.m. Cops, accompanied by MENRO personnel, found two tons of foul-smelling used surgical gloves at the apartment units.
Police said the suspects failed to present any document to justify their possession and storage of the hazardous materials.
Case investigator S/Sgt. Jonathan Lagario could not immediately say where the used surgical gloves came from. He said the suspects claimed they bought the items from an unnamed cousin of one of the suspects.
“Nire-recycle nila, then binibenta nila. (They are recycling and reselling it),” Lagario said, adding the suspects are using chemicals to clean the gloves.
