TWO alleged online scammers were arrested by operatives of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) in Quezon City and Caloocan City last Tuesday night, the ACG reported yesterday.
One of the suspects, Virgilio Agito, 28, was arrested in an entrapment operation in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa in Quezon City at around 8:30 p.m.
His cohort, identified as Greco Jose Gonzalo, 26, was arrested in a follow-up operation in Mary Homes in Caloocan City.
They were arrested based on the complaint of an online seller of computer parts who was contacted by the victims last September 1, through Facebook, asking to buy computer parts worth P8,130.
The two parties agreed that the mode of payment will be online banking and the suspects later sent screenshots of the online banking receipts to the victims as proof of payment.
The supposed payment did not reflect on the bank account of the victim but the victim still delivered the items after the suspects told him that it was probably due to technical problems.
The following day, the victim went to his bank and confirmed that the suspects did not pay him through online banking.
Last Wednesday, the suspects again contacted the victim to order computer parts amounting to P46,000.
The victim reported the matter to the ACG, which promptly arranged the entrapment operation.
