TWO overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were hurt in a fire that hit a residential building in Hong Kong last Wednesday.
Citing a report from the Migrant Workers Office in Hong Kong (MWO-HK), the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said a Filipino male and female sustained injuries in the fire that hit a 16-storey residential building.
“In Hong Kong, we have two reported injured OFWs, both sustained minor injuries,” DMW Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a radio interview.
“Both are now safe and are out of harm’s way,” he added.
The DMW said the male OFW sustained injuries from splinters from a broken glass door he had to break to avoid smoke inhalation.
The male OFW, an active member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is being treated for his wounds.
The female OFW sought treatment for smoke inhalation and is still confined at a local hospital. Being a senior citizen, the DMW said the doctors decided to observe her condition further.
