TWO New People’s Army rebels were killed a clash with government troops in Hinoba-an town in Negros Occidental on Saturday, the military reported yesterday.
Troops from the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion were conducting security operation in Purok Yuring, Sitio Dash 7 in Barangay Bulwangan when they clashed with the rebels from Platoon 3, Southwest Front of the Komiteng Rehiyon Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor.
The rebels withdrew after a 40-minute firefight, leaving their two dead comrades. One of the slain rebels was identified through his alias as Michael and Nonoy while the other was identified as Ken-ken.
Soldiers also recovered at the encounter site two cal. 45 pistols with magazines and ammunition, a hand grenade, extortion letters, rebel documents, cellphones, and personal belongings.
No one was reported killed or injured on the military side.
15th IB civil military operations officer 2Lt. Weann Sandag said the rebels were conducting extortion activities at the time they were encountered by the soldiers.
“Accordingly, the NPA terrorists were on their recovery and extortion activities and are sowing fear in the previously cleared areas of Hinoba-an, which prompted the local populace to immediately report their presence in the community,” said Sandag.
