TWO New People’s Army rebels were killed in a firefight with government troops in Negros Occidental last Saturday, three days before the NPA marks its 53rd foundation anniversary.

“As we always say, that there are only two things that could happen to NPA members if they will not surrender,” said Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (ID) based in Capiz. “They can be either captured and go to jail, or get killed. So again, we urge them to surrender before it’s too late.”

Troops from the Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion were conducting security operation when they clashed with about five rebels in Sitio Malicolico, Barangay Carabalan in Himamaylan City at around 3:10 p.m.

After a five-minute firefight, troops recovered at the encounter site the remains of the two slain rebels, a grenade, medical kit, nine shotgun ammunition, a scope, illegal drugs, and rebel documents.
