GOVERNMENT forces arrested two officials of the communist New People’s Army during a raid on their safehouse in Diffun town, Quirino province on Monday night.
One of the arrested rebel leaders was identified as Reynaldo Busania, the head of communication branch of the Regional Organization Department of the CPP-NPA’s Komiteng Region-Cagayan Valley.
Busania has warrants for multiple frustrated murder, serious illegal detention, robbery, and arson.
Also arrested was Sharon dela Cruz Malubay, alias Kyla, medical officer of the Northern Front of the same committee.
Maj. Noriel Tayaban, spokesman of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division based in Isabela, said the two were arrested at Busania’s safehouse in Purok 2 in Barangay Magsaysay around 6:55 p.m.
The arrest of Busania and Malubay came 20 days after the arrest of three NPA leaders in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, also part of 5th ID’s areas of responsibility, for murder and other cases in court.
Col. Laurence Mina, commander of the Army’s 502nd Brigade, said Busania and Malubay are also involved in a “series of extortion activities against contractors of government flagship projects, businessmen and other individuals” in the region.
