GOVERNMENT troops arrested two New People’s Army (NPA) leaders at a checkpoint in Bulalacao town in Oriental Mindoro last Saturday, the military reported.

In a statement last Wednesday night, the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division identified the NPA officials by their aliases as Ems and Patrick.

Ems is the deputy secretary of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee and the concurrent head of the unit’s Kagawaran ng Rehiyon sa Edukasyon (KARED).

Patrick, on the other hand, is a staff of KARED and a former NPA platoon leader in Mimaropa.

Seized from them were an M203 grenade launcher, a hand grenade, a cal. 38 revolver and bomb components.

They were nabbed by soldiers from the 4th Infantry Battalion and policemen last Saturday at a checkpoint in Sitio Banti, Barangay San Roque, Bulalacao town.

The military said the checkpoint was established by the troops after a clash with NPA rebels in Barangay Panaytayan, Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro Thursday last week.
