TWO New People’s Army (NPA) leaders and a medic surrendered to the military in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental last Friday, the military reported yesterday.
The NPA leaders were identified as Golden Romania Compas Sr., 52, and Pasague Legaspino, 29, a political guide and vice commanding officer, respectively, of the NPA’s Platoon Falcon.
The third insurgent who surrendered was Legaspino’s wife, Ariel Uba Compas, 27, who serves as medic of the NPA unit.
The Army’s 402nd Brigade, based in Butuan City in Agusan del Norte, said the three surrendered to the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, under Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, in Sitio Anahaw, Barangay Bantaawan in Gingoog City.
They brought with them an M16 rifle which had been converted into a sniper rifle, magazines, ammunition, an improvised explosive device, two blasting caps, and a 10-meter detonating cord.
The three are under the care of the 58th IB in Claveria town in Misamis Oriental and will be enrolled with the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integrated Program, the government’s social integration program.
402nd Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Adonis Ariel Orio urged NPA rebels to surrender, noting that the brigade “will not cease in conducting focused military operations until all of you are finally neutralized.”
