A SON of a slain New People’s Army (NPA) leader and his wife, both occupying key positions in the underground movement, were killed in a clash with government troops in Impasugong town in Bukidnon on Saturday.

Slain were Isagani Madlos and his wife Angie Pilandres Salinas, head of the National Technical Bureau and the National Communications Bureau, respectively, of the CPP-NPA’s National Operations Command (NOC).

Madlos is the son of the late Jorge Madlos, alias “Ka Oris,” who headed the NOC and was spokesman of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) in Mindanao. The elder Madlos died in October last year in a firefight with soldiers also in Impasugong town.

Col. Ted Dumosmong, commander of the Army’s 403rd Brigade, described Madlos and his wife as “among the wanted top terrorist leaders.” The CPP and the NPA have been designated as terrorist organizations by the National Security Council.

Dumosmog said Madlos had multiple standing arrest warrants for crimes committed in Caraga and Northern Mindanao regions.

Troops from the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion (IB) were conducting reconnaissance patrol in Barangay Capitan Bayong at around 1 p.m. when they encountered an undetermined number of rebels.

8th IB commander Lt. Col. Anthony Bacus said the battalion conducted the patrol after receiving information about the presence of the rebels in the area.

The firefight that lasted for about 15 minutes also resulted in the recovery of two AK47 rifles, four AK47 magazines, a hand grenade, a bandolier, a hand-held commercial radio, two cellular phones, rebel documents, and other belongings.
