TWO guerrilla fronts of the New People’s Army (NPA) in northern Luzon have been dismantled during the third quarter of the year, the military reported yesterday.
This brought to just four the number of NPA guerrilla fronts still operating in the area, said Lt. Col. Elmar Salvador, spokesman of the AFP Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom).
Salvador said the dismantled units – West Guerrilla Front and East Guerrilla Front, used to operate in Cagayan province,
“We now only have four guerrilla fronts (in Northern Luzon), these weakened guerrilla fronts,” he said.
Three of the four fronts are operating in the Cordillera Administrative Region and the fourth in the Bataan-Zambales-Tarlac area.
Salvador said Nolcom commander Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres wants these remaining guerrilla fronts dismantled “within this year, before the end of December.”
Nolcom also reported that 25 NPA rebels were “neutralized” (either killed, apprehended or have surrendered) and 60 firearms were seized during the third quarter of this year.
