TWO members of a gunrunning and kidnap-for-ransom group were killed in a firefight with operatives of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group in Quezon City on Saturday night.
In a report to PNP chief Debold Sinas, AKG Director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo identified one of the fatalities as Jhonny Lerus Radaza, an ex-convict. The second suspect has yet to be identified.
Estomo said Radaza was released from detention in January after serving time for possession of illegal drugs.
Estomo said AKG operatives arranged to buy an unregistered cal .45 pistol from the suspects for P20,000.
After the exchange was made on Eagle St. in Barangay Bagong Silangan at around 7 p.m., the suspects, sensing they were dealing with policemen, sped off aboard their motorcycle but were cornered after a brief chase. They shot it out with the lawmen, leading to their death.
Radaza died on the spot while his companion was rushed to the Rosario Maclang General Hospital where he died upon arrival.
