THE Bureau of Immigration turned away two South Koreans who attempted to enter the country last Monday by presenting fake marriage certificates to Filipinas.
BI Port Operations Division Chief Grifton Medina said the two Koreans, identified as Shin Bumsik and Woo Jungjie, arrived at the Mactan Cebu International Airport aboard an Aseana Airlines flight from Seoul.
Medina said the two, who had tourist visas, presented to immigration officers scanned copies of marriage certificates purportedly showing they are married to Filipinas.
He said the immigration officer referred the passengers to their supervisor for secondary inspection.
“It was later found that one of them, Shin Bumsik, who is only 20 years old, could not have married a Filipina as he had never traveled to the Philippines before,” Medina said.
Medina said the other Korean was also discovered lying as he was not in the country at the time of his alleged marriage in October last year.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said he has already ordered their inclusion in the immigration’s blacklist to prevent them from entering the country in the future.
The two were booked on the first available flight back to Seoul.
Morente said possession of an entry visa does not guarantee a foreigner’s entry into the country as immigration officers sill have to assess and examine the documents they are presenting as well as inquire about the purpose of their trip.
