OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Caloocan City police have killed two men and arrested four others in a botched firearms deal in Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan City on Saturday.
A report to CIDG director Maj. Gen. Amador Corpus identified the fatalities as a Nelson Lorenzo and a Mike Sultan while the arrested were Julius Abeja, Imelda Navida, Randy Camsalim, and Jesus Maclang, all of Phase 9, Package 7A, Block 19, Lots 18 and 19, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
Police said Lorenzo was the leader of the group which is involved in gunrunning, gun-for-hire, robbery/holdup, and illegal drugs in the Camanava and nearby areas.
Police said an undercover policeman acted as buyer of .38 caliber revolver for P3,500 but Lorenzo sensed he was transacting with a police officer, prompting him to draw his firearm, a .38 caliber revolver, and fire at the cop, but missed.
Lorenzo and his cohorts escaped as the policemen on standby chased them until they were cornered. Instead of giving up, the suspects fired at the policemen, triggering a brief gun battle.
The other suspects were forced to surrender upon seeing their dead cohorts. There were no casualties on the government side.
