2 injured seafarers set to arrive today

TWO more crew members of the missile-hit M/V True Confidence are set to arrive in the country today, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the two injured seafarers “will arrive home via air ambulance.”

No additional arrival details were available as of press time.

Cacdac nevertheless said government led by the DMW is ready to welcome the survivors of the missile attack in the Gulf of Aden.

“Whole-of-government team will once again be ready to receive and provide full assistance and support,” said Cacdac.

Last Tuesday, 11 Filipino crew members of bulk carrier arrived in Manila. The repatriated seafarers are composed of 10 unharmed crewmen, and one with minor injuries.

The 11 seafarers received financial assistance worth P50,000 from the DMW, as well as livelihood aid worth P20,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The Filipino sailors also received medical and psychiatric assessment from the Department of Health, and scholarship and training vouchers from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Social Welfare Assistant Secretary and spokesman Romel Lopez said an initial P10,000 cash aid was also given to the mother of one of the two Filipinos who died. A similar cash aid would be provided to the other fatality. — Gerard Naval and Jocelyn Montemayor
