OPERATIVES of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested two suspected importers of over 3,034 pills of ecstasy party drugs worth P5.15 million in Quezon City on Saturday night.
The suspects were identified as Jennifer Abas, alias Evelyn Sotto, and Genevie Abas, residents of Barangay Pasong Tamo in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
They were nabbed by PDEA operatives, in coordination with Quezon City police district and Bureau of Customs officers, at around 6 p.m. during a controlled delivery operation on Philand Drive in Barangay Pasong Tamo.
The operation stemmed from information from the Shenzhen Customs Police in China about a Philippine-bound package, believed to be containing illegal drugs, from Netherlands. It was consigned to one Evelyn Sotto.
Upon arrival at the Clark International Airport on Saturday, PDEA said the package was inspected and was found to be containing ecstasy pills.
Sotto, whose real name was later established to be Jennifer Abas, and Abas were placed under arrest as soon as they received the package.
A woman was arrested and P20,400 worth of suspected dangerous drugs were seized during a buy-bust operation in Pasig City on Saturday.
Col. Roman Arugay, local police chief, identified the suspect as Emelita Rivera, 53, a resident of Barangay Bambang, Pasig.
Seized from her were several sachets of suspected shabu. — With Christian Oineza
