Killed in the blast was M/Sgt. Jason Magno, who was declared dead on arrival at a hospital where he was brought.

Capt. Princess Velarde, Misamis provincial police spokeswoman, said the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. inside the Initao College in Barangay Jampason.

Before the blast, Velarde said the Initao police station received reports that a man was “making a commotion” at the school. She said a police team was promptly sent to the place to investigate.

“The suspect threw a grenade to the responding policemen,” said Velarde, adding he was later shot dead by police.

Velarde said the suspect was later shot dead by the police.

Among those injured were M/Sgt. Alice Balido, said to be seriously wounded, and 14 others, including nine students and two teachers of Initao College who sustained minor injuries.

Velarde said Basher was earlier accosted by Department of Environment and Natural Resources officials due to undocumented lumber in his vehicle. She said Basher went wild at the DENR office and ran towards the unfenced Initao College with the grenade.
