THE National Bureau of Investigation recently arrested two Chinese and seven Filipinos who are crew members of a ship found dumping hazardous wastes in Cabangan, Zambales.
NBI Director Dante Gierran identified those nabbed as Huizu Hua, the master of the vessel; Chief Mate Wang Aimin, Capt. Danny Banes, Clieford Calingacion, Alberto Rendon, Edgardo Aquino, Eddie Singuelo and brokers Benjamin Bautista and Jesse Romano Sunga.
Last Nov. 15, the NBI received information regarding an alleged shipment of hazardous waste called phosphogypsum in Zambales. The next day, NBI-Environmental Crime Division operatives conducted a surveillance operation on a vessel, the MV Dayang Century, anchored 1.5 kilometers from the shoreline of Barangay Sto. Nino, Cabangan, Zambales, and a Landing Craft Tank docked in a private jetty port. — Cyra Corral
