TWO suspected carnappers were killed in a firefight with policemen in Binangonan, Rizal early morning yesterday.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame, Calabarzon regional police office spokeswoman Maj. Mary Ann Crester Torres said the shootout occurred at a checkpoint in Barangay Pantok at around 2:45 a.m.
Torres said policemen manning the checkpoint tried to flag down two persons aboard a motorcycle for not wearing helmets.
“They did not stop at the checkpoint so the team leader (of the policemen) gave an order to chase those onboard the motorcycle. During the chase, the two fell on the ground after their motorcycle skidded,” Torres said.
Torres said the policemen checked on the two men, who suddenly opened fire, hitting one of the policemen who was not hurt as he was wearing a bulletproof vest. The policemen’s vehicle was also hit.
“The policemen traded fire with the suspects, who unfortunately died,” said Torres. Police were still trying to determine the identities of the suspects as of yesterday.
“During follow-up investigation, we determined their motorcycle was carnapped, reported stolen,” said Torres.
Torres said the owner of the motorcycle was identified as Julian Khyle de Leon of Angono, Rizal. His motorcycle was stolen last Tuesday afternoon while parked inside the Hillsdale Summit Subdivision, Barangay San Isidro in Angono.
