TWO Army generals on Monday assumed their new posts as chief of the Intelligence Service of the AFP (ISAFP) and acting AFP deputy chief of staff for intelligence (J2), the military said yesterday.

AFP deputy chief of staff Vice Adm. Rommel Anthony Reyes presided over the assumption of the two officers, Maj. Gen. Leonel Nicolas and Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Barandon, during rites at Camp Aguinaldo.

Nicolas took the helm of ISAFP while Barandon took over as acting J2 — the previous post of Nicolas. He will take the perform the job in concurrent capacity as assistant J2.

Nicolas and Barandon are members of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991.

Col. Jory Baclor, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office, said Nicolas has been serving as acting ISAFP chief for some time now, in addition to being the J2.

“Now, what the President did was to make him permanent ISAFP chief, so he was replaced as J2 (by Barandon in acting capacity),” said Baclor.

Nicolas has served as commander of the Army’s 102nd Brigade, Task Force Zamboanga, and the 10th and 15th infantry battalions, both under the Army 1st Infantry Division.
