ONE hundred ninety-nine more patients succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 7,217 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, a sharp rise from the 5,000-plus average the past two days.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the new cases do not include figures from four laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last June 1.
There were 5,177 new cases last Tuesday and 5,257 last Wednesday.
The DOH said the death toll climbed to 21,357 for a case fatality rate of 1.71 while the number of infections in the country rose to 1,247,899.
Active cases rose sharply to 55,790 from 52,132 last Wednesday, with 93.6 percent mild cases, 2 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.8 percent severe cases, 1.4 percent critical cases, and 1.2 percent moderate cases.
The DOH reported 3,483 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,170,752.
This means that 93.8 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
The number of overseas Filipinos infected with the deadly virus climbed to 19,774 after two new cases were reported, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Of these, 11,249 were in the Middle East and African regions, 4,019 in Asia and the Pacific, 3,522 in Europe, and 984 in the Americas.
The number of survivors rose to 12, 044 after six new recoveries, with 6,536 still active cases.
The DFA reported no new fatality. The current death toll among Filipinos abroad due to the virus stands at 1,194. — With Ashzel Hachero
