ONE hundred ninety-one more died from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 6,637 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday as the number of infections in the country rose to 1,080,172.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said just one laboratory failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) on May 4, which explains why the number of new cases rose by nearly a thousand from the 5,684 average the past two days.
The death toll from the deadly virus climbed to 17,991, just nine short of the grim mark of 18,000, for a case fatality rate of 1.67.
Active cases rose slight to 63,170 from 62,713 last Wednesday, of which 94.3 percent are mild cases, 1.9 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.6 percent severe cases, 1.2 percent critical cases, and 1.03 percent moderate cases
There were 6,091 new recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 999,011.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said 22 more overseas Filipino workers tested positive for the deadly virus, bringing the number of infection to 18,479.
But the DFA received no new report of fatality while 14 recoveries were recorded by its embassies and consulates among members of the overseas Filipino community.
The current death toll stands at 1,147, while 11,306 have survived the deadly virus. — With Ashzel Hachero
