A MONTH since the nationwide School-Based Immunization (SBI) program was launched, over 188,000 doses of vaccines against different diseases have been administered to students in the Calabarzon region.

Data from the Department of Health’s Calabarzon Center for Health Development showed 188,353 doses of vaccines against measles-rubella (MR), tetanus-diphtheria (TD), and human papilloma virus (HPV) have been injected as of November 11.

Among Grade 1 students, 49,339 MR doses and 48,594 TD doses have been given; 33,279 MR and 32,803 TD, for Grade 7; and 24,338 HPV doses Grade 4 female school children.

Calabarzon has 259,873 Grade 1 students; 134,566 female Grade 4 students; and 285,548 Grade 7 students.

Institutionalized in 2015, the SBI used to be conducted every August nationwide in public schools until the COVID-19 pandemic when it shifted from being school-based to community-based due to the suspension of in-person school classes. Educational institutions gradually opened with the conclusion of the global health crisis.

Last month, the DOH launched the SBI program for Grades 1, 4 (females), and 7 students.
