17K more recoveries; 83 deaths

MORE than 17,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to the Department of Health, but this bit of good news was tempered by 83 more deaths.

The number of total infections in the country rose to 339,341 after 2,502 more new cases were reported yesterday that went with the 2,996 cases last Friday and 2,249 cases last Saturday.

Counting 83 deaths last Friday and 87 last Saturday, the total number of fatalities has risen to 6,321.

Majority of the new deaths were recorded in NCR with 39. Other deaths were reported from CALABARZON (17), Western Visayas (10), and Northern Mindanao (5).

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said 782 of the new cases came from the National Capital Region while Rizal reported 141, Laguna 128, Cavite 125, and Bulacan 119.

There were 17,057 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has now reached 293,075.

Two new cases were reported yesterday among overseas Filipinos but there were no new fatalities, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The new cases in Asia and the Pacific brought the total number of Filipinos infected with the deadly virus to 10,869.

As of October 10, the DFA said 801 overseas Filipinos have succumbed to the virus while 6, 919 have recovered.

The Middle East and African regions continue to lead other regions in terms of cases and fatalities with 7,137 and 519, respectively.

The Asia Pacific region recorded 1,713 cases with 9 deaths, followed by Europe with 1,209 cases and 95 deaths.

The Americas reported 810 cases with 178 deaths. — Ashzel Hachero
