SIXTEEN truckloads of garbage were collected in bus terminals and in the vicinity of churches and roadways during the Holy Week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said yesterday.
“In the clean-up operation initiated in bus terminals, churches and major roadways in Metro Manila, we collected 44.19 tons or 16 truckloads of garbage,” MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said.
Artes said this was done by street sweepers from the MMDA Metro Parkways Clearing Group.
The agency has yet to provide data on garbage collected in last year’s Holy Week break.
The MMDA chief reiterated his appeal to the public not to threw their garbage haphazardly, saying: We should do our part in maintaining cleanliness to prevent floodings in Metro Manila through the proper dumping of garbage.”
