Batangas town police chief dies in car crash

THE police chief of Lian town in Batangas died after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving collided with a truck in Taal town, also in Batangas, yesterday morning.

A report from the Batangas Provincial Police Office identified the fatality as Maj. Amiel Bernardo Sanhi Jr., a resident of Barangay Calicanto in Batangas City.

Initial investigation said Sanhi was driving his Isuzu Mux with plate number AVA-7245, traversing Barangay Tulo in Taal at around 12:50 a.m. when it collided with a Fuso 10-wheeler truck.

Police said the two vehicles were on the same lane, going towards Batangas City, when the collision took place.

Sanhi was brought to the Batangas Provincial Hospital in Lemery town, Batangas but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Ramon Sixto Castillo.

Police said the driver of the truck, identified as Salvador Segfred, 29, a resident of Barangay Dayapan in Lemery town, is currently under the custody of the Taal police.

Segfred is facing investigation for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property.
