ONE hundred forty six more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients lost their battle against the deadly virus while 5,257 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, raising the number of infections in the country to 1,240,716.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the new cases do not include figures from three laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last May 31.
The death toll in the country rose to 21,158 for a case fatality rate of 1.71, a slight rise from the 1.70 last Tuesday.
Active cases dipped slightly to 52,132 from 53,203 from 54,290 last Tuesday, with 93.1 percent mild cases, 2.3 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.9 percent severe cases, 1.5 percent critical cases, and 1.3 percent moderate cases.
There were 6,266 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,167,426, meaning 94.1 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
Seven more overseas Filipinos have been infected with the deadly virus, raising the total number to 19,772, with 11,249 of them in the Middle East and African regions, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
DFA data showed the Asia-Pacific region had 4,017 cases, Europe with 3,522 and 984 in the Americas.
No new fatality was reported. The death toll stands at 1, 194.
The DFA recorded a lone recovery, bringing to 12,038 the number of overseas Filipinos who have survived the virus.
Another policeman succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll in the PNP to 67.
PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar said the fatality, a 47-year-old executive master sergeant from Tagum City, Davao del Norte was admitted at a hospital after testing positive last May 27.
Four days later, the policeman’s oxygen level continued to fluctuate and died at 5:11 p.m. on the same day.
The PNP Health Service recorded 167 new COVID-19 infections in the police force, increasing the total cases to 24,253, with 22,536 having recovered and 1,650 still active cases. — With Ashzel Hachero and Victor Reyes
