EIGHTEEN more patients succumbed to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 1,438 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, raising the number of infections in the country to 434,357.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said Davao City reported 142 more infections while Laguna had 89, Quezon City 80, Manila 63, and Pampanga 58.
Overall, the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 8,436 persons for a case fatality rate of 1.94 percent.
There were 232 more recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has risen to 399,005. The DOH said this means that 91.9 percent of patients have recovered.
Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there are 26,916 active cases in the country, accounting for 6.2 percent of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Of the active cases, 84.7 percent are mild cases, 7.1 percent are asymptomatic cases, 5.2 percent are critical cases, 2.7 percent are severe cases, and 0.29 percent are moderate cases.
Eleven more overseas Filipinos have been infected with the deadly virus, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. This brought to 11,719 the number of Filipinos in 82 countries infected with the virus.
Six of the new cases were recorded in the Asia Pacific region while five were reported in Europe.
Overall, the Asia Pacific and Europe had 1,932 and 1,404 cases though the death rates in those regions among infected Filipinos remained low at 9 and 97, respectively.
There were no new deaths reported. The current death toll stands at 847.
There were six new recoveries, bringing to 7,545 the number of those who survived the deadly virus.
The DFA also said that 39,957 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated last month from countries impacted by the virus.
The DFA said 34,312 came from the Middle East, 3,310 from Asia and the Pacific region, 2,316 from Europe, 10 from Africa and 9 from the Americas.
Since the DFA began its repatriation efforts last February, 277, 320 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated, 86,413 of them sea-based workers and 190,907 land-based workers.
DIVISORIA SHOPPING
Mayor Isko Moreno said the city government will further tighten security measures in Divisoria and remind shoppers to strictly abide by health and safety protocols.
Moreno said they expect more shoppers to flock to Divisoria, coming not only from Metro Manila but as far as southern, central and northern parts of Luzon.
“We will continue to manage the influx of people, of shoppers. We will reinforce our effort to deploy additional COVID marshals and enforcement unit to remind them to adhere to health protocols and practice self-discipline,” Moreno said over radio dZmm. — With Ashzel Hachero
