LESS than 1,500 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, the lowest in nine months, along with just 46 new deaths.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,806,694, counting the 1,409 yesterday, while the death toll climbed to 44,567 for a case fatality rate of 1.59.

The latest infections were the lowest in the country since February 17, when 1,184 new cases were reported. But this number did not include figures from 14 laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System last November 7.

The DOH attributed the low number of deaths to “technical issues encountered with COVIDKaya.”

The positivity rate in the country stood at 5.4 percent out of the 30,716 tests conducted last November 7.

Active cases dipped to 30,544 from 32,077 last Monday, with 60.7 percent mild cases, 17 percent moderate cases, 10 percent severe cases, 8 percent asymptomatic cases, and 4.2 percent critical cases.

The DOH also reported 2,941 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,731,583. This means that 97.3 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
