THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said 11 to 14 more tropical cyclones are expected to enter the
Philippine Area of Responsibility until the end of the year.
During the Laging Handa public briefing, PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano said two of the tropical cyclones may come soon.
An average of 20 tropical cyclones enters the country a year, said Malano.
So far, four tropical cyclones have entered the country this year, namely, tropical storm Agaton, typhoon Basyang, and tropical depressions Caloy and Domeng.
“We’re expecting 11 up to 14 more tropical cyclones to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility,” said Malano.
“The tropical cyclones that usually hit land are those that are experienced towards the end of the year. The strong tropical cyclones are experienced during the last quarter of the year,” said Malano.
Malano said PAGASA does not expect any tropical cyclones in the next three days.
“After three days, we are expecting tropical cyclones to enter our Philippine Area of Responsibility and their characteristic is similar to the last two,” Malano said, referring to tropical depressions Caloy and Domeng which stayed far from landmass.
In an advisory issued at 4 p.m. yesterday, PAGASA said Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Visayas, and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Zambales will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and monsoon trough.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
