THE PNP yesterday said 131 policemen have been dismissed from service from January 1 to February 14 this year for various offenses, mostly for going absent without official leave (AWOL).
PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo made the announcement during a press briefing at Camp Crame as she updated the media on the continuing internal cleansing program of the police force.
Fajardo said 62 of the dismissed policemen were involved in AWOL cases, while the 69 other policemen were separated from the service for “grave offenses including robbery, illegal drugs, obstruction of justice and conduct unbecoming a police officer.”
Meanwhile, Fajardo said the PNP will provide legal assistance to seven policemen who recently surrendered to the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group after a Rizal court ordered their arrest for two counts of murder.
The murder cases were in connection with the killing of two suspected New People’s Army rebels in Rodriguez, Rizal in 2010. Fajardo said the two communist rebels died in a “legitimate operation” conducted by the PNP Special Action Force.
Fajardo said the PNP has been providing legal assistance to its personnel facing service-related cases in court.
