13 hurt in 12-vehicle smash-up in Mandaluyong

THIRTEEN persons were injured in a 12-vehicle smash-up in Mandaluyong City yesterday morning.

Case investigator Richard Bumacas said the victims were brought to nearby hospitals for treatment of various injuries.

They were identified as Romulado Hipol, 49; Michael Falar, 37; Christian Balolot, 29; Nicole Diaz, 27; Carrel Dela Cruz 69; Russell Ragas, 43; Henry Julianes, 44; Richard Flor, 46; Romencito Saoi, 35; Raydan Par, 40; John Pamplona, 25; Venus Pena, 28; and Rosemarie Mendez, 32.

A Toyota Land Cruiser (NIX-307) driven by Jose Maria Roldan, 19, caused the smash-up that involved seven other cars and four motorcycles.

Roldan and his passenger, Dominador Braga, were brought to the Mandaluyong police station to face possible criminal charges.

The incident occurred on the southbound lane of San Miguel Ave. corner Shaw Blvd. in Barangay Wack Wack at around 9 a.m.

The Land Cruiser, traveling on the opposite lane, apparently lost control, hit a post at the center island before crashing into the other vehicles. — Christian Oineza
