128 more die; 6,096 new cases

DEATHS continued to surge as 128 more succumbed to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 6,096 new cases were reported yesterday by the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the death toll from the deadly virus now stands at 24,372 for a case fatality rate of 1.74.

The new cases did not include figures from three laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last June 25.

Infections in the country rose to 1,397,992 while there were 6,912 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,321,050. The DOH said this means that 94.5 percent of COVID patients have recovered.

There were 52,570 active cases, with 89.5 percent mild cases, 5.6 percent asymptomatic cases, 2 percent severe cases, 1.4 percent critical cases, and 1.4 percent moderate cases.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it received no new update on COVID-19 cases of Filipinos abroad.

As of Saturday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos remained at 20,747; total fatalities at 1,227; and total recoveries at 12,234.
