AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (J3) Maj. Gen. Edgardo De Leon, the military’s top operations officer, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Navy chief Rear Adm. Adeluis Bordado.
Bordado announced this last Tuesday while acknowledging his classmates in the 1988 Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” class when he assumed his new post on Tuesday afternoon.
Bordado first acknowledged his PMA classmates who were able to make it to the ceremony, including Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes, Army chief Maj. Gen. Andres Centino and Naval Inspector General Maj. Gen. Nestor Herico.
Bordado then acknowledged his classmates who watched the ceremony online, saying: “It’s the fault of J3, he tested positive for COVID-19, that’s why GHQ (general headquarters) and Army Maringals were not able to attend.”
In his address, Bordado vowed the Navy, under his helm, will “sustain its organizational development and modernization path.” – With Ashzel Hachero and Victor Reyes
