PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) personnel rescued 12 passengers, including two infants and two children, of a submerged motor banca off Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte on Sunday.
In a statement, the PCG said its personnel, along with those of the local government, were on their way to mainland Dapitan City from Selinog Island when they saw and subsequently rescued the distressed passengers.
The PCG said the victims were turned over to the Dapitan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office after their rescue “for further assistance.”
The PCG said the passengers were on the way to Rizal Shrine in Dapitan City when they figured in the mishap at around 5 p.m. last Sunday.
“According to the rescued individuals, they departed Purok Langaman in Talisay, going to Rizal Shrine, Dapitan City, when the motor banca’s outrigger was accidentally damaged, causing it to submerge,” the PCG said. — Victor Reyes
