AT least a third of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel, or about 11,000 non-officers, have been promoted to the next higher rank.
PCG commandant Admiral Artemio Abu yesterday led the donning of ranks and oath-taking ceremony of the newly-promoted non-officers at the PCG national headquarters in Manila.
Many of those promoted were present during the ceremony. Others, especially those assigned outside Metro Manila, joined the ceremony through video-teleconferencing.
In July last year, 9,140 PCH members — 9,075 non-officers and 65 officers — were also promoted to the next rank in recognition of their hard work and significant contributions to the PCG.
The PCG is performing varied missions like law enforcement, protection of marine environment, and patrolling the disputed areas in the West Philippine Sea.
Abu said the latest promotion was not only a testament to their competence and skills but also a reflection of their commitment to the organization.
He said the promotion likewise serves as reward for their sacrifices in the pursuit to the organization’s duty to save lives and protect the marine environment.
“Promotions are not only recognitions of prior outstanding work. They are also an acknowledgment of your potential to do even better, outdo yourself, and surpass previous successes,” said Abu.
Abu reminded the promoted personnel of the importance of the job they are performing.
“Always know that your every finished task, every completed assignment, and mission accomplished, no matter how small or menial these may seem to you, is significant to the organization as a whole, for what is the PCG’s success but a collection of small contributions from our tireless men and women serving beyond the call of duty,” said Abu.
Abu said the promotion is not just a “milestone” in their career.
“They are moments that inspire us all. We look forward to witnessing your continued success and contributions to our organizations,” he said.
