Meanwhile, former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada is “slowly recovering” from his bout with the deadly virus and is now on a soup diet, according to his son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada.

The younger Estrada said his father is still at the intensive care unit of the Cardinal Santor Memorial Medical Center in San Juan, adding his condition has greatly improved since he was removed from ventilator support last Saturday.

“He is slowly recovering. He is still under observation at ngayon ay nag-uumpisa na siya ng mga bed exercises as prescribed by doctors and he is on soup diet,” Jinggoy said on CNN Philippines.

He said the exercises will help his father recover faster.

Jinggoy added that his 83-year-old father even belted a song that was captured on video by one of his attending nurses.

Estrada was rushed to the hospital last March 28 after complaining of body weakness.

He later tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and was confined. He was then on mechanical ventilation on April 7 after his pneumonia worsened. — With Ashzel Hachero
