ELEVEN Filipino crew members of the Barbados-flagged ship M/V True Confidence arrived in Manila yesterday, about a week after surviving an attack of Houthi rebels in the Gulf of Aden.

The missile attack killed two Filipino seafarers and a Vietnamese.

They 11 were welcomed by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). Ten of them were unharmed in the attack on Wednesday last week. The 11th is one of the three injured Filipinos and has been cleared by medical authorities as “fit for travel,” the DMW said.

In a statement on Monday, DMW said two other injured remained at a hospital in Djibouti City and will be repatriated “as soon as they are medically certified as fit for travel.”

The DMW also said retrieval is ongoing for the remains of the two slain Filipino crew members.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said the 13 have been given an initial $1,000 assistance. — Gerard Naval and Jocelyn Montemayor
